Inkscape Tutorial

Wow! Today I made my first tutorial -- I really hope it helps you! Please leave a comment if you found it useful! The associated svg/scut/jpg files will be available for download on the weekend!

ETA: This is the medium-quality video, and is a bit blurry in places. I'm still trying to upload the HQ, but it's taking forever! Two things will help you watch successfully: watch "full screen" and click the "HD" button beside the volume to watch in high definition.

  8. LesleyAnne,
Thank you so much for this awesome tutorial. I got SCAL last week and I was intimidated by the thought of Inkscape. You have taken the fear out of trying it! You are an awesome teacher! Thanks again! I'm off to watch part 2!

  10. How great is this!!
I can't wait to try it for myself. Wonderful tutorial - just the right pace. You've made it so easy to understand.
Only one suggestion to make:if possible, zoom in when you choose something on the toolbar.

Hope you will make many more tutorials.
Thank you so much. Now I feel that I can really make use of SCAL for graphics. Yipee!

  11. Great tutorial! ?.. this probably sounds really dumb.. but when you import that cut file into SCAL... what happens to the text that you used to label things, does it cut that too?

  13. I purchased SCAL a few months ago and have only been using it to open and cut files I've found online. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find specific ones I want and was getting very upset that I spent the money on something I couldn't really get a lot of use out of. I consider myself a PC proficient person and I had seen another video on using Inkscape and it was overwhelming. Now that I've seen your video I can't wait to try it. You did a wonderful job and made it very straight forward!!! THANKS! I hope you will consider making a video showing how to work with a color JPGs soon!!!

  14. I used your tutorial and gave Inkscape a try! It took a while (just so I could get my head around what pieces needed duplicates - like the eyes and the various layers for them) but I think it all worked out well! Here is a link to my blog and the files (Dora the Explorer in a Floral Dress): http://cloesspace.blogspot.com/2009/09/first-svg-cut-file-dora-in-floral-dress.html

Thanks again for this great tutorial!!

  15. I just ran across your tutorial on you tube and really wanted to thank you soooo much! I still haven't gotten it all down pat yet but getting alot closer! I understood everything from your video but when I opened it in Scal 2 I couldn't separate the pieces could not click on individual piece to move where I needed on the cutting mat. I sure hope you make many more tutorials you really explain things great!! This program has been to me the most frustrating thing to learn but since I seen your video it sure did give me hope! Thanks again and if you have time and want to email me with what you think I did wrong I sure would appreciate it! Tobusyscrapping@bellsouth.net
